What is the only communication we are able to have with God? How is it possible? How can it occur? What can be communicated? What can be its result? and, What benefits can it bring us in our lives?
The purpose of this article is to attempt to answer these questions by a consideration of the philosophical, scientific, biblical, and traditional views on this subject.
What is the only communication we are able to have with God?
To begin with, God is a Spirit, Jesus the Christ specifically and directly informed us (Jn 4:24). Being and existing as a Spirit, He has no physical eyes to see, no physical ears to hear, and no physical hands to touch us, or to use a device to communicate with us . . .
To believe otherwise or to state otherwise is equivalent to saying that Jesus the Christ was a LIAR . . .
One would then be forced to conclude that NO COMMUNICATION is possible between God and us . . . However, this is not true . . . Easy, direct, constant, and extensive communication between us and God is possible, but not in audible ways (spoken), nor by thoughts (telepathy), neither by emotional means (body language).
The ONLY communication possible between us and God is spiritual, given that He is a Spirit . . . The only communication possible between us is a "SPIRITUAL COMMUNICATION." However, a spiritual communication is the MOST personally individualized, direct, and clear communication in existence in the Universe . . . And is readily available between us and God, when we so desire it.
How is it possible?
God ensured that such a method of communication, between us and Him, be not just possible but necessary, by creating us in His Image, spiritually . . .
He so loved us, that He created in us the capacity to engage in such communication with Him, to guide us specifically, to counsel and comfort us, and to establish an individualized "informational loop" between us.
As God is a Spirit, and He infused us with part of His Spirit, there exists this possible communication loop with Him, readily available to us and Him, for our mutual benefits . . . Of course, we stand to benefit the MOST from such means of communication . . . However, a spiritual communication with God can ONLY occur and benefit us if it is sincere and in truth, for God knows EVERYTHING that is in our hearts, minds, souls and spirits, NOTHING SPIRITUAL can be hidden from Him . . . Once, and if such prerequisites are met, there will be NOTHING that He would withhold from us:
The woman saith unto him,
I know that Messias cometh,
which is called Christ:
when he is come,
he will tell us all things.
Jesus saith unto her,
I that speak unto thee am he.
And upon this came his disciples,
and marvelled that he talked with the woman:
yet no man said, What seekest thou?
or, Why talkest thou with her?
The woman then left her waterpot,
and went her way into the city,
and saith to the men
Come, see a man, which told me all things
that ever I did: is not this the Christ?" (Jn 4:24-29)
"Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father
knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him." (Mt 6:8)
"Ask, and it shall be given you;" (Mt 7:7)
It is to be understood that God will grant our wishes, ONLY by means possible in this physical world (Universe) . . . NOT by supernatural means, as any supernatural interference by God on this physical world would instantly violate the physical laws He has established to make its existence possible, for its maintenance and stability. If what we ask is ONLY possible by such supernatural means, then it will not be granted, He would only offer counsel encouraging our resignation . . . (Mt 6:9-13)
How can it occur?
A spiritual communication between us and God can ONLY occur by our willingness to engage in it . . . God is ALWAYS willing, ready, and able . . . However, our willingness MUST be "in spirit and in truth," not vicarious or capricious . . . When we are willing to do it in spirit and in truth, we are in effect worshiping God, as we are in effect recognizing Him as our Creator, Lord, and Personal Savior . . . just what He wishes . . .
What can be communicated?
Anything and everything can be communicated in such interactions with God . . . Most things we might ask for will be instantly granted, others will take time to be realized as they might be "event-dependent" events, that is that their realization depends on groundwork events to be made manifest, such as our asking for our own house, which would depend on our acquiring the downpayment and a mortgage . . . Some things will be impossible for Him to grant entirely without His supernatural interference, such as our growing a limb which had been amputated . . . However in such situations He will comfort us by imbuing us with the necessary spiritual strength to resign ourselves, and seek other human (medical) means such as a prosthesis . . . We have to be reasonable and realistic in our petitions . . . God is not a magician . . .
What can be be its result?
The MOST obvious results of our being able to communicate with God spiritually are that we can practice and master our dormant spirituality, and further, that we can finally be absolutely truthful in a relationship.
It is to be understood that it might be the ONLY truthful relationship we might develop, although He advises us to at least make peace with even our enemies before trying such a communication with Him . . . our soul and spirit must be "clean" to the extent possible for us before we enter in His presence . . . for such a personal, intimate communication with God IS equivalent to being with Him, in His presence, before HIS THRONE, of course spiritually, which is the ONLY WAY POSSIBLE we can attain such an audience . . . However, that is the GREATEST BLESSING we can have from our Lord . . .
What benefits can it bring us in our lives?
The greatest benefits in our life spiritually, is that we finally can achieve a closer relationship with our Father, God, and that it is bound to quiet and comfort our soul of our worldly anguish and spiritual discomfort; And physically, that we might gain a thousandfold what we ask for . . . It demonstrates to our Father, God, our belief, faith, and trust in Him, enhancing our spiritual stature with Him . . . and He recompenses that with granting us much more than what we ask for:
