What is the Physical World? What is the Spiritual World? What are the differences between the Physical and Spiritual Worlds? What are the possible interactions between the Physical and Spiritual Worlds? What is possible in each of these two worlds? Is there communication between them, and if so, what type of communication?

The purpose of this article is to attempt to answer these questions by a consideration of the current general, scientific, and biblical knowledge concerning these issues.

The Word of God in the Scriptures implies that there exist a Physical World (ours, or "The Universe") and a Spiritual World (God's World, or "Heaven"). It also implies that the "twain shall never meet," that is to say that there is a gulf between the two worlds, and further that NO interaction between the two worlds is possible. The kinds of things that are possible in each of them are unique and different, and there is, at least, some communication between them, spiritual communication ONLY, no physical communication is possible between them.

What is the Physical World?

The Physical World is the world we inhabit. It is made up of everything that physically exists, whatever we know or have seen or detected. Much of our Physical World we do not know of or have detected, let alone seen it. We generally call it "The Universe," and includes the galaxies, the suns, planets, and in our case, The Earth.

The scant knowledge we have of it has been found by Astronomy and Astrophysics (By the way, about The Creation . . .). We have discerned quite a lot of the Physical Laws which govern it, but a lot more remain to be found, and there is a possibility that some will never be known.

In general, we know that its main Law is "The Law of Cause and Effect," as it determines the slightest events within it at all times . . .

For Science, the Physical World had no original or First Cause, it appeared spontaneously out of nothing . . . For Religion, that is for believers in God, HE was the First or Original Cause that created it, and everything that exists within it.

Regardless of the different views held by Science and Religion about the origins of the Physical World, everything that exists within, or enters into the Physical World MUST be ruled and operate by the Physical Laws that govern it, and determine everything within it. It cannot be otherwise, NOTHING supernatural can occur within it, by the laws that govern it and make it at all possible to exist to begin with . . .

"And he went a little farther, and fell on his face,
and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible,
let this cup pass from me:
nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt." (Mt 26:39)

In the above passage, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, is asking God, His Father, if what He was asking was possible. He was asking God if it was possible for Him to interfere supernaturally in the Physical World, and save Him from His appointed fate. He was obviously NOT aware if it was possible for God to interfere in a supernatural way in the goings on of the Physical World . . .

It obviously was not possible for God . . .

When God created the Physical World (the Spiritual World has always existed through eternity), He divided "the waters from the waters," meaning that He set an impenetrability to both the Physical and Spiritual Worlds so that "the twain shall never meet," or that the two worlds cannot mix or interact with each other, they are totally independent of each other, and exist and function independent of each other.

"And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters,
and let it divide the waters from the waters.

And God made the firmament,
and divided the waters which were under the firmament
from the waters which were above the firmament:
and it was so.

And God called the firmament Heaven." (Gn 1:6-8)

This had to be so, because the two worlds function and are ruled differently, even though it is in the Spiritual World (Heaven) where the Word of God ("Verb" in Gn 1:6-8) exists, and which created the Physical World.

"In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.

The same was in the beginning with God.

All things were made by him;
and without him was not any thing made that was made.
" (Jn 1:1-3)

Therefore, ALL instances of supposed "miraculous" or supernatural interferences on the part of God upon the Physical World (Universe), told in the Old and New Testaments (the parting of the Red Sea, fire from Heaven, animals which speak, etc.), and reported by some in our current era, ARE FALSE . . . are inventions of Man, and should not be believed . . .

Although God's Will in Heaven is what originally determined what was to be or exist in the Physical World, and that no interaction would be possible between Heaven and the Physical World, after His Kingdom is established within the Physical World, He will be able to exercise His continuous Will upon it:

"Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done in earth,
as it is in heaven.
" (Mt 6:10)

We have a strong indication of this impenetrability created by God between these two worlds in the parable our Lord told about Lazarus, the poor man, and the rich man:

"But Abraham said,
Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime
receivedst thy good things,
and likewise Lazarus evil things:
but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

And beside all this,
between us and you there is a great gulf fixed:
so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot;
neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
" (Lk 16:25-26)

An identical impenetrability or "gulf," for now, exists between the Physical World (Universe) and the Spiritual World (Heaven) . . .

We can only speculate that this is so because of the very different or fundamental differences in the nature of both worlds, one Physical, the other Spiritual . . .

What is the Spiritual World?

The Spiritual World is the world within which God exists. And we know next to NOTHING about it. We generally call it "Heaven."

We can ONLY speculate what it is like, who or what resides in it, how, and in what form.

We image that, for sure, God, His Son (The Christ), and the Holy Spirit exist in it, or inhabit it . . . Indeed, as God is a Spirit (Jn 4:24), and as there is nothing or no one else in the Spiritual World, then His Person Itself IS the Spiritual World . . .

Moreover, as God created His Son, The Christ, and THE TWO ARE ONE in the Spiritual World (Heaven), then ALL THREE entities, God, The Christ, and the Holy Spirit are ONE single entity, and taken together, they ARE the Spiritual World . . .

"I and my Father are one." (Jn 10:30)

It would be ludicrous to imagine that there is extra or unoccupied "space" in the Spiritual World . . . And as we can discern that there are no "angels, the Devil, and demons" in the Spiritual World (By the Way, About Man . . . and By the Way, About Evil and the Devil . . .), then ONLY God, The Christ, and the Holy Spirit must be its only inhabitants . . .

Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, informed us directly and unequivocally that He was the ONLY one that COULD travel from Heaven into the Physical World, and return to Heaven again . . .

"And no man hath ascended up to heaven,
but he that came down from heaven,
even the Son of man which is in heaven.
" (Jn 3:13)

In this passage, our Lord is saying that ONLY HE is able to do this, meaning that ALL supposed goings and comings from the Physical to the Spiritual World, of others in the Old and New Testaments, and currently in our era, have NOT happened AT ALL . . . they are the inventions of MAN . . . and should not be believed . . .

To believe or state otherwise is equivalent to saying that Jesus the Christ was a LIAR . . .

As He was ALL God in the flesh, then we know that ONLY to God is such a thing possible . . . and NOT to anyone or to anything else:

"For with God nothing shall be impossible." (Lk 1:37)

There are no angels, and there is no Devil (By the Way, About Man . . . and By the Way, About Evil and the Devil . . .), and even if there were, it would not be possible for them to accomplish these things, by the declarations of our Lord about the issue directly and unequivocally.

To believe or state otherwise is equivalent to saying that Jesus the Christ was a LIAR . . .

ALL "visits" by invented and mythical inhabitants of the Spiritual World (angels, demons, the Devil, our ancestors, all visits by Jesus the Christ other than the two already determined by Him, the Virgin Mary, or Catholic Saints), or even of earthly human beings (Elijah and the Apostle Paul, among many), or by any human beings currently in our era, are IMPOSSIBLE by the direct and unequivocal words of Jesus the Christ about the issue (Jn 3:13).

To believe or state otherwise is equivalent to saying that Jesus the Christ was a LIAR . . .

The reason that God, the Father, could not interfere supernaturally with His appointed physical fate for His Son, Jesus the Christ, is that once created by Him, the Universe has to be maintained by the physical laws that He imposed on it to make its existence possible at all . . . For Him to be able to interfere in a supernatural way upon the Physical World, He would have to suspend or violate those laws, and the Universe would be rendered unstable and CEASE TO EXIST IN ITS PRESENT FORM, OR INSTANTLY CEASE TO EXIST AT ALL . . .

Even for God, to be able to enter into the Physical World, He had to assume a physical form, as it happened with Jesus the Christ, and in the usual way that such an occurrence can take place. He had to be born of a woman, grow up, and then interact with Humanity on equal physical terms. This also meant that He could be killed . . . as it actually happened . . .

There are no supernatural ways for God to rationally and safely deal with His Physical Creation . . .

The supernatural, God has already done . . . the very Creation of the Physical World (Universe) . . .

ALL renditions different than these truths in the Old and New Testaments, and currently in our era, on the part of Man, ARE FALSE, and constitute misconceptions, misinterpretation of the Scriptures, or intentional lies intended to deceive us . . . and should not be believed . . .

To believe or state otherwise is equivalent to saying that Jesus the Christ was a LIAR . . .

What are the differences between the Physical and Spiritual Worlds?

As we know next to nothing about the Spiritual World, and only have a scant knowledge of the Physical World, there is no rational basis for us to discover what are the differences between these two worlds . . . and there might never be any . . .

All we know is what Jesus the Christ told us about the nature of God, His Father:

"God is a Spirit" (Jn 4:24)

And we know that He must exist or be in the Spiritual World (Heaven) . . .

Anything else is pure speculation on our part, and on the part of those in the rest of the Scriptures, or on the part of some currently in our era, who say or imply that they know . . .

Each of the renditions by various sources in the Scriptures concerning the nature of the Spiritual World, and by current sources, are widely different, and reflect more the wishes or fancies of the sources than any possible real knowledge . . . they are not to be believed . . . This because as Jesus the Christ told us directly and unequivocally, ONLY He can and has traveled or moved between the Physical and Spiritual Worlds, and has first hand knowledge of it, NO ONE ELSE HAS, OR CAN.

To believe or state otherwise is equivalent to saying that Jesus the Christ was a LIAR . . .

What are the possible interactions between the Physical and Spiritual Worlds?

As we know very little about the Physical World, and nothing about the Spiritual World, we can only speculate about this question. We can logically conclude the following:

- God had to embed the necessary physical laws in the Physical World to obtain His intended future results for it, control, regulation, and maintenance of the Universe, before His creation of it or since "before the Foundation of the World" (Eph 1:4).

- Nothing and no one from the Spiritual World can influence or control supernaturally what happens in the Physical World (least of all the mythical Devil), not by answers to petitions and prayers, and least of all, not by their own initiative (not even capriciously by God).

- So-called Angels and Spirits or Ghosts (such things do not exist, see By the Way, About Man . . . and By the Way, About Evil and the Devil . . .), even if they existed, cannot enter or be in the Physical World and be ruled by the physical laws of that world. Such mythical spiritual beings would not have mass or weight, and thus the Force of Gravity, reigning in the Physical World, would not be able to hold them on the surface of the planet Earth, they could not walk on it, and they would just float away into outer space, they could not fly around even if having "wings" as the spiritual mythical "angels," as they lack the physical capacity for breathing . . .

- As "God is a Spirit" (Jn 4:24) as Jesus the Christ informed us in a straightforward way, then He has none of the physical attributes of a physical being, He does not have eyes, ears, sense of touch, etc., so He cannot see, hear, touch, or feel us physically. He can ONLY sense us as we can sense Him . . . spiritually . . .

- He can ONLY sense what we are spiritually at any one time, that is our spiritual states, values, emotions, and feelings.

- He can ONLY judge us about our spiritual states at any one time, not what we do physically, as He cannot see or hear any of that . . . The ONLY sins that matter to God are our "spiritual sins," as He stated in His clear detailed description of our Final Judgment (Jn 4:24), not our "carnal" ones, unless they are the result of, and accompany our spiritual sins.

- We are both, a physical (natural) body and a spiritual body:

"There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body." (1 Cor 15:44)

- So, God ONLY knows us as spiritual beings, and knows and cares ONLY about our spiritual bodies, not our natural (physical) ones. He can ONLY judge us spiritually about our spiritual sins, not our "carnal" (physical) sins or the sins of our "flesh," as conceptualized by Man.

- It was only through the agency of His Son, Jesus the Christ, that He was able to know us physically, about our physical existence and conduct . . . and that because He had to come into the Physical World as a physical being to be able to see and hear for Himself . . .

- The ONLY communication possible between the Spiritual and Physical Worlds is communication by means of the "Holy Spirit" or "Comforter," as we were directly and clearly told by Jesus the Christ (Jn 14:26). And "Spirits" including the "Holy Spirit" are moods and states of mind in ourselves induced by mentally altered states of consciousness, created by ourselves or by God, as believers (By the way, about Spirits . . .).

What is possible in each of these two worlds?

We only have scant knowledge of what all is possible in the Physical World we exist in . . . and we know nothing of what is possible in the Spiritual World . . .

Is there communication between them, and if so, what type of communication?

No direct physical communication is possible between the Physical and Spiritual Worlds, ONLY a spiritual communication (By the Way, About Our Communication with God . . .).

God is a spirit, and cannot see or hear us. Jesus the Christ let us know this unequivocally when asked how we should pray to God:

"After this manner therefore pray ye:
Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth,
as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory, for ever. Amen." (Mt 6:9-13)

The prayer implies our rendition to God's wishes, our reconciling ourselves to His will for us as determined by His original creation of our Physical World, but that once His Kingdom is established in the Physical World, He will be able to exercise His Will upon it as He determines it in Heaven . . . it is really a prayer to ourselves, who can only hear it, God cannot, as He is a spirit and has no ears to hear us, the prayer is clearly intended to convince ourselves of our duty to yield our will to His Will.

The ONLY possible direct physical communication between the Spiritual and Physical Worlds has already occurred, and it was by God, the Father, to come to this world by taking a physical form, in the human (physical) body of His Son, Jesus the Christ.

Presumably, and as promised, that will happen ONLY once again, in eternity . . .

Food for thought

"For the promise is unto you, and to your children,
and to all that are afar off,
even as many as the LORD our God shall call.
" (Acts 2:39)

God does not judge anyone, and has delegated the Final Judgment of Mankind to His Son, Jesus the Christ, but not to the Divine (God) part of His Son (not to Himself), as that would make Jesus the Christ's assertion about the issue a contradiction; Rather, God delegated ALL JUSTICE to the human part of Jesus, given that He was ALL God and ALL man at the same time. Human beings are the ONLY ones with a desire for vengeance and judgment, not God. Jesus the Christ will come back, then as the Son of Man, and as a human being with desires for vengeance and judgment:

"For the Father judgeth no man,
but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
" (Jn 5:22)
